UCSF Alliance Health Project . The UCSF Alliance Health Project (AHP) offers LGBTQ-affirming mental health services, substance use counseling, and peer support to low-income members of the LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities. We also provide free HIV testing and STD screening at our services center and mobile test sites. Our support groups include a Queer Women’s Disability & Chronic Illness Group, a Transgender Support Group, and a New Positives Support Group. Additionally, individual psychotherapy services and ongoing psychiatric clinical care, including medication evaluation and monitoring, are available to low income, uninsured or underinsured San Francisco residents. AHP also provides culturally competent mental health crisis services to the LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities. AHP has a long history of treating some of San Francisco’s most complex patients. Founded as the AIDS Health Project in 1984, our agency has treated dually- and triply-diagnosed patients since the 1980s—those at risk of HIV or living with HIV/AIDS who also struggle with mental health and/or substance use issues. AHP case managers also assist unstably housed or homeless LGBT or HIV-affected clients to find affordable, subsidized housing while clinical staff treat their mental health and substance abuse issues. AHP has counseled and provided HIV-test results to more than 200,000 individuals and has trained more than 80,000 health care professionals, educators, and students. AHP currently provides direct services to nearly 6,500 clients annually. Volunteers enable AHP to serve more people and help us remain close to the communities we serve. We are searching for community-minded people who are interested in helping in the on-going and ever changing HIV/STI Prevention arena. We provide training and opportunity for certification through the San Francisco Dept. of Public Health to do HIV Prevention Test Counseling. We are looking for people who can volunteer for various shifts, especially late nights and weekends. We also do mobile testing on our van for special events, as well as street fairs (i.e., Dore, Folsom), and we work with some of our local universities to educate and test their student population. Our audience focus is on populations who are most impacted but also most underserved, currently API (Asian Pacific Islander) MSM, Trans, and African American communities. However, anyone can do an HIV test. You must be interested in working with a diverse group of people, both internally and externally to the agency. We also offer non-HIV Counselor Volunteer Opportunities. You can help set up and break down our mobile testing operations at outreach events, or spend a couple of hours putting together harm reduction kits. Some daily tasks do not require a weekly commitment. What do you need to bring? An open mind, willingness to help, and a commitment to volunteer! 1 shift available. Shifts : Weekdays between 12p-7p, and Weekends from 9am - 12am (depending on events). Responsibilities
