Background investigation is required of candidates who wish to be considered for Correctional Medicine assignments. Felony convictions are disqualifying, and some misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying. Position : Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) – Justice Facility Compensation The estimated pay for this position is $81,047.20 to $126,268.90. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. This position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan. Job Description Under supervision of a physician, to secure clinical data from patients; provide specified medical services to patients; manage certain patients in the Emergency Department; be responsible for ongoing management of selected groups of patients; and perform related work as required by the supervising physician within the scope of licensure. Distinguishing Characteristics Incumbents have advanced training which allows them to provide primary care on both an episodic and short-term basis to defined patient populations under the supervision of a licensed physician. Essential Functions Interviews patients to obtain medical histories and perform examinations. Orders diagnostic tests; diagnoses and prescribes treatment for common illnesses. Performs screenings or diagnostic procedures including audiometry, breast examinations, pelvic examinations, Pap smears and tonometry. Educates patients about common medical, social and psychological conditions. Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of patients ranging up to 100+ years, depending on area of practice. Other Functions Performs other job services under supervision of a licensed physician, as permitted by standardized protocols and licensure scope. Performs other job-related duties as required. Employment Standards Depending on assignment incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment. Completion of an approved educational program for Nurse Practitioners; current licensure as a Registered Nurse in California as a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife; or possession of a valid Board of Registered Nursing certificate authorizing Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife. OR Completion of a Physician's Assistant training program approved by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance and possession of a current valid certificate issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire. Maintain RQI Provider certification and competency. Knowledge of Human physiology, medical terminology, disease symptomatology, and treatment modalities. Basic mental health services and standards for medications used to treat psychiatric disorders. Ability to Communicate with physicians, patients and other health professionals. Follow established procedures and protocols. Supplemental A background check may be required for this classification. If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, possession of a current valid California Driver’s License is required.
