Overview
UVA Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Associate (PA) to join the multidisciplinary Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Center. The APP will provide direct patient care in a collaborative setting, working with physicians and a range of specialists to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care for patients with EDS and related connective tissue disorders.
Responsibilities
Provide independent and collaborative clinical care to patients with EDS and associated conditions.
Conduct detailed patient histories, physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing care planning.
Manage chronic symptoms including pain, fatigue, joint hypermobility, dysautonomia, and gastrointestinal concerns.
Collaborate across specialties including genetics, cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, physical therapy, and pain management.
Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, lifestyle modifications, and long-term self-management strategies.
Coordinate referrals, testing, and follow-up care to ensure continuity across the multidisciplinary team.
Document all clinical activity accurately in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives within the EDS Center and Ambulatory Cardiology team.
Contribute to patient advocacy and may participate in education, research, or outreach efforts related to connective tissue disorders.
Work with the medical director and interprofessional team to facilitate patient care across the health care system.
Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes commensurate with training and credentialing.
Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments; initiate appropriate emergency therapy as needed.
Formulate diagnoses, identify problems and health risks, and communicate with the health care team.
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies in consultation with peers; perform procedures within scope of practice and credentialing.
Order medications, treatments and therapies per state regulations; request consultations and referrals as needed.
Evaluate patient responses to treatment and provide education and support to patients/families.
Participate in on-call responsibilities as appropriate and as determined by the department.
Adhere to UVA Medical Center and UVA UPG policies and procedures; report public health information as required by law.
Participate in quality standards, committees, clinical education, and professional development activities as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned that are commensurate with professional service.
Minimum Requirements Education:
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
Experience:
Department and unit specific.
Licensure:
License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, CRNA, or CNM) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If NP, license to practice as an RN in Virginia is required. Maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing, and certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP as required for the position. ACLS as required for the position.
Physical Demands:
Standing for prolonged periods; bending/stooping; reaching; repetitive keyboard use; ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs; may be exposed to noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
Compensation Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 annually.
