ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE SPECIALIST

Overview
Hours: 8am-4:30pm (Monday-Friday)
Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a seaside city with maritime history and convenient proximity to DC and other major North Eastern cities.
Responsibilities
Performs accurate and timely billing and follow-up on patient accounts for all applicable insurances and localities. Pursues the billing, collection, and recovery of patient receivables (including Acute, RTC, school, and/or PHP as assigned to worklist), and bad debt accounts within established guidelines for Newport News Behavioral Health Center. Knowledge of all phases of revenue cycle including receivables analysis, insurance billing, and collection activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Duties:
Processes, inputs and bills on all assigned accounts for facility to include any service provided by the facility. Assigned accounts could include services for Acute, Residential, PHP, and/or School.
Ensure account activity is current and accurately documented.
Ensures that each account worked shall include complete and accurate information in MS4, as well as document next steps.
Work with Admissions, HIM, and UM to verify and update patient account information as needed.
Review for accuracy all assigned accounts prior to billing to third-party payers.
Initiates follow-up with payors for accounts not paid within 30 days.
Contact with insurance companies/agencies should include a review and thorough understanding of reasons for delay and next step to resolve payment. Phone calls are preferred method of contact.
Documenting information in MS4 & changing insurance payor as needed
Working with Admissions, UM, and/or Corp liaisons at Nashville Regional Office to verify information and resolve NRO, and working with
Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position, including support to additional departments as needed.

Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
Proof work to visually identify errors.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Requirements High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
