This position is responsible for applying advanced accounting practices to ensure the accuracy and integrity of Tractor Supply’s daily sales and cash activity across stores and e-commerce. The role specializes in complex reconciliations and exception resolution across POS → SAP → processor/bank, BlackLine optimization, and month-end close analytics. The Senior Accountant will prepare and analyze financial flux for sales transactions and discrepancies, highlighting key drivers during close and contributing insights to financial presentations. This position partners closely with Sales Audit, Treasury/Banking, Payments/Processors, and IT Retail Systems to resolve systemic breaks, strengthen controls, and support system changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support complex reconciliations within the three-way match process (POS/e-commerce → SAP GL → processors/banks), focusing on high-impact discrepancies and systemic breaks while partnering with the broader team.
Monitor and resolve complex store balancing exceptions (e.g., deposit variances, cash over/short, coupons, gift cards, chargebacks, settlement timing, tax/rounding).
Maintain and continually develop metrics and dashboards for match‑rate health, exception aging, and settlement timeliness; communicate trends and actions.
Prepare and review journal entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Perform and improve BlackLine reconciliations; design matching rules, address false positives/negatives, and raise auto‑match rates.
Prepare flux schedules and supporting analysis for management reporting and financial presentations, ensuring discrepancies and drivers are clearly explained.
Analyze large transaction datasets; identify root causes and propose durable fixes (mapping corrections, control changes, interface updates).
Support system upgrades by validating sales audit data flows and accounting outcomes after upgrades.
Partner with IT, Sales Audit, and Accounting Systems to enhance automation, reporting, and reconciliation accuracy.
Perform SOX Controls while documenting and refining procedures to strengthen internal controls and operational consistency.
Required Qualifications
Experience : 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with exposure to sales audit, cash accounting, or retail reconciliations. SAP and BlackLine experience strongly preferred.
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Professional Certifications : CPA certification or CPA candidate preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills Or Abilities
Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting close processes.
Advanced Excel skills with ability to analyze large datasets.
Strong reconciliation, problem-solving, and exception-resolution abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
