Our Senior Credit Risk Officer is a strategic leader responsible for evaluating, managing, and mitigating credit risk across the commercial lending portfolio. This role requires deep expertise in Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) lending, with emphasis on financial modeling, covenant analysis, and mentoring junior staff. The officer will be a key decision-maker, working closely with Loan Officers and Underwriters to ensure sound credit practices and portfolio integrity. This role will focus on converting commercial loan opportunities with balanced portfolio risk management and is part of a growing commercial lending team (WY, CO, UT) with a $168M commercial portfolio.

Note: Starting salary is dependent on location and experience. Position is at World Headquarters in Cheyenne with potential remote options for those living in Colorado or Wyoming.

Responsibilities

Conduct in-depth financial analysis and risk assessments for new and existing credit exposures. Demonstrate strong analytical skills, including proficiency in financial modeling and covenant structuring.

Develop and implement strategic risk mitigation frameworks aligned with organizational goals. Collaborate with underwriting teams to ensure well-prepared credit packages and sound decision-making.

Lead periodic portfolio reviews and stress testing exercises. Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Own and manage a diverse lending portfolio, including CRE and middle-market C&I loans.

Mentor junior credit staff and support their professional development.

Partner with cross-functional teams to support business growth while maintaining credit discipline. Thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Serve as the Bank CRA Officer and assure compliance with all CRA policies and procedures. Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable laws and court rulings regarding Credit Union matters, including collection-related matters such as bankruptcy and foreclosure.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience: Minimum of 10–12 years in commercial credit risk, with CRE and C&I exposure. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Experience mentoring and developing junior staff. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and risk rating systems. Experience with commercial lending software and financial analysis tools.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA preferred.

Certification in Commercial Credit (e.g., NACM, CRC, CCRA) is a plus.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior-level professionals. Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of complex, high-level dialogues and collaboration.

Additional Details

Location: Cheyenne headquarters with possible remote options for Colorado or Wyoming residents.

Starting Range: $94,000.00 – $120,000.00; Full Range: $88,954.35 – $133,431.53
