Property Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive
Property Accountant
to join our team. This role is responsible for managing the financial activity of a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate reporting, and supporting both the property management team and tenants with financial matters. Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records and reports for an assigned portfolio of properties Partner with on-site teams to gather lease compliance documentation and address tenant-related accounting needs Handle accounts receivable functions, including resolving tenant inquiries, addressing payment discrepancies, and preparing tenant renewal documentation Oversee the collection process, including coordinating with legal counsel when necessary Manage final accounting at tenant move-out, including disposition letters and supporting documents Review, process, and approve vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy of coding, amounts, and payment timelines Foster vendor relationships and resolve billing or payment concerns Review and approve submeter billings across the portfolio as needed Reconcile tenant security deposits on a monthly basis Lead the month-end close process, including complex bank and account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis Prepare year-end financial statements and schedules for tax reporting Track and account for capital improvement projects Collaborate with property managers, the accounting manager, and cross-functional teams to deliver timely and accurate financial reporting Serve as a resource for staff on accounting and property management matters Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; equivalent work experience will be considered 1–3 years of experience in real estate or property accounting Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIF) and familiarity with real estate accounting software; Yardi experience is a plus Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and wants to contribute to the success of a growing property management team.
