Position Description The Accounting Supervisor manages a team of accountants who are responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting a streamlined monthly general ledger close, consolidation, and reporting cycle. This role oversees functional areas within Corporate or Plant accounting. The Supervisor ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements, supports internal and external reporting, and contributes to process improvements and systems enhancements. Additionally, this position plays a key role in fostering collaboration with operational teams and supporting broader initiatives within the Controller’s Area. Success in this role requires flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to new assignments and evolving processes.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Supervises a team of accountants, including task assignment, performance monitoring, and professional development.

Maintains accurate accounting records and ensures timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, FERC, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requirements.

Reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial schedules for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Participates in the monthly close and consolidation process, including the preparation and review of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Analyzes financial statement fluctuations and prepares supporting reports and variance explanations.

Researches and advises on the accounting implications of new transactions, regulatory orders, and accounting guidance.

Supports the preparation and review of periodic regulatory filings and responses to data requests from the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other agencies.

Oversees the maintenance of fixed assets and project accounting systems, including Oracle Financials, PowerPlan, and related tools.

Provides training to internal staff and operational departments on accounting principles, including capital vs. O&M classification.

Identifies and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and internal controls.

Participates in and/or leads special projects, such as due diligence, systems testing, and cross-functional initiatives.

Provides services to affiliates in accordance with the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and related policies.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Ensures the Company’s management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually supports the affirmative action plan.

Assumes fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and provides recommendations on cost improvement measures.

Ensures that the performance management program is administered uniformly and effectively.

Complies with and administers the terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements, when applicable.

Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel. Participates in hiring, promoting, assignment, direction, and termination of staff. Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards, company policies, practices and ethical obligations to investigate, evaluate and recommend appropriate resolutions to employee complaints.

Promotes and participates in the professional development, personal growth and career planning of team members.

Motivates, recognizes, rewards, coaches, advises, and trains; provides feedback to employees during performance reviews.

Participates in leadership development programs.

Addresses disciplinary and/or performance issues, according to company policy, and communicates effectively with employees regarding corrective action. Has input into the adjustment of grievances and administration of discipline.

Plans day-to-day operations, estimates personnel needs and schedules, and assigns work. Evaluates the structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with a minimum of 24 units of accounting from an accredited institution and 6+ years of directly related experience.

Familiarity with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle Financials (GL, Projects), PowerPlan, OneStream, and Workiva.

Understanding of internal control frameworks and their application in financial reporting and compliance.

Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and explain variances.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Ability to lead, coach, and develop a team of accountants, including performance management and task delegation.

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and special projects simultaneously.

Creative and practical approach to resolving accounting and system-related issues.

Ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.

High level of accuracy in reviewing financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

Public accounting experience.

CPA license.

Thorough understanding of regulatory reporting requirements, including those from the ACC, FERC, and other relevant bodies.
