Consultant Engineer II

A new Consultant Engineer will learn risk engineering and consulting skills from experienced mentors and a community-based work culture for the first 12 months, including a combination of field, self-study, classroom, and mock factory training. Our 1,900 loss prevention engineers, with backgrounds in all types of engineering and fire protection, provide clients with world-class, research-based consulting, which complements FM’s financial strength and policy coverage as a highly regarded specialty insurer of large and challenging risks. Perform hands-on site assessments of physical properties by touring the interior, roofs, and exterior of client facilities. Evaluate site water supplies, fire protection, dust hazards, electrical systems, chemical storage and processing, structural designs, construction materials, and emergency response programs. Ensure FM Engineering Standards are followed and communicate recommendations and engineering solutions to clients as needed. Support and assist clients in implementing risk mitigation solutions. Work from a home office and travel to client facilities daily, with overnight travel expected 3-5 nights per month (around 15-25%). Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (various specialties considered). Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Good analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Efficient time management with minimal supervision. Solid technical aptitude and diverse engineering knowledge. Valid driver’s license. Physically able to climb ladders, mount roofs, lift 25 lbs, work in confined spaces, and walk 2-3 miles per day. Proficient in MS Office products.
