Key Responsibilities
Patient Outreach & Support:
Call patients to assist with Medicaid applications and enrollment.
Work closely with the Department of Human Services (DHS) to gather required documentation.
Assist patients with charity care applications and provide guidance through the financial assistance process.
Onsite Patient Engagement:
Visit Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient rooms to speak with uninsured patients.
Discuss Medicaid options and, if ineligible, establish payment plans prior to patient discharge.
Census & Follow-Up:
Review the previous day’s census to identify self-pay patients.
Verify existing Medicaid coverage or pending applications.
Contact patients as needed to initiate or complete the Medicaid enrollment process.
Pre-Service Financial Clearance:
Call patients prior to scheduled procedures (particularly GI and Pain Management) to review financial responsibility.
Set up payment plans and ensure required pre-payments are made in advance of services.
Performance Expectations
This position comes with a high workload and will be closely monitored for productivity and effectiveness.
Successful candidates will be proactive, patient-focused, and capable of managing high volumes while maintaining quality service.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Prior experience in medical billing, Medicaid enrollment, or financial counseling strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of Medicaid and charity care programs.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to speak empathetically with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
