Consumer Loan Underwriter

who is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about making sound credit decisions that protect our members and our credit union. As a Consumer Loan Underwriter, you’ll play a vital role in evaluating and decisioning consumer loan applications—including auto loans, personal loans, credit cards, and more. You will: Review loan applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies.

Analyze financial documentation, credit reports, and income data to assess creditworthiness.

Evaluate risk using credit scoring models and risk management tools.

Ensure all decisions follow applicable laws and regulations (TILA, ECOA, FCRA, etc.).

Communicate with applicants to request documentation or explain loan decisions.

Collaborate with loan officers and management on complex or high-value cases.

Maintain thorough documentation and support internal audit readiness.

Stay up to date with industry changes, products, and compliance standards.

Experience:

3–5 years in consumer lending or underwriting required.

Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Skills: Proficiency in evaluating credit reports, financial statements, and loan applications

Knowledge of consumer loan products (auto, personal loans, credit cards, lines of credit)

Strong understanding of consumer lending regulations (TILA, ECOA, FCRA, RESPA)

Excellent communication, decision-making, and analytical abilities

Detail-oriented and organized, with solid time management skills

Comfortable using loan origination systems, credit analysis tools, and Microsoft Office
