Network Engineer – MPLS to SD-WAN Migration
Contractor • 2025-09-16 to 2025-10-16 • Rosebank
Our client in the ISP environment is looking for a Network Engineer with experience in
SD-WAN Migration . This is a 3 months short term contract to be based in Rosebank. The Network Engineer will play a critical role in the
design, planning, and execution of network transformation projects, focusing on migrating enterprise customers from legacy MPLS architectures to modern SD-WAN solutions . This role ensures seamless transition with minimal disruption, aligning with the company’s cloud-first and digital transformation strategy.
Qualifications & Certifications Matric plus Diploma in IT or related field CCNP Enterprise or equivalent (SD-WAN specialization preferred). Security+ or equivalent for compliance awareness.
Experience 5+ years in network engineering roles, with at least 2 years in WAN transformation or SD-WAN projects. Proven experience conducting detailed network audits and producing actionable reports. Track record in large-scale migrations and hybrid network designs.
Required Skills & Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of WAN technologies: MPLS, BGP, OSPF, QoS, IPSec VPN. Hands-on experience with SD-WAN platforms (e.g., Cisco Viptela, Fortinet, Aruba EdgeConnect, or similar). Familiarity with cloud connectivity (Azure, AWS) and security frameworks (SASE, Zero Trust).
Key Responsibilities
Network Assessment & Design: Perform comprehensive network audits of existing MPLS environments, including topology, routing, QoS, and security policies.
Develop High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documents for SD-WAN solutions, incorporating hybrid underlay (MPLS + DIA/LTE) where required.
Ensure designs align with THE COMPANY’s standards, security frameworks, and customer requirements.
Migration Planning
Create phased migration strategies to minimize downtime and risk.
Define rollback plans and contingency measures for critical services (voice, APN, data center connectivity).
Collaborate with project managers to develop detailed implementation timelines.
Implementation Support
Assist in SD-WAN edge device configuration, policy deployment, and integration with existing infrastructure.
Validate interoperability with third-party NNIs, firewalls, and cloud services.
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and post-migration performance validation.
Optimization & Documentation
Analyze network performance post-migration and recommend tuning for QoS, routing, and security.
Maintain accurate documentation of network diagrams, IP schemas, and configuration baselines.
