The Workday Admin/Architect at Bowie State University is a strategic and technical leader responsible for designing, coordinating, and advancing the university’s use of the Workday HCM platform across all administrative functions. This role will collaborate with departments including Finance, HR, Academic Affairs, and Student Services to ensure effective system architecture, business process design, and integration across the institution.
The goal is to maximize institutional efficiency, leverage Workday capabilities, and enhance user experience and data quality.
Responsibilities
Design and maintain Bowie State’s Workday architecture across HCM, Finance, and other modules (as applicable) Serve as the systems integrator for all major Workday initiatives, upgrades, and new feature implementations Act as a liaison with USM MD Connect, coordinating on shared configuration, release planning, governance, and state-level compliance standards Collaborate with university departments to align Workday capabilities with institutional priorities, streamline operations, and eliminate manual processes Participate in business process reviews and recommend architectural solutions to improve data integrity, workflow automation, and cross-module efficiency Monitor upcoming Workday releases and recommend enhancement adoption strategies aligned with best practices in higher education Coordinate with Workday support teams, consultants, and technical staff to resolve complex configuration or integration issues Ensure system integrity, access security, and performance across Workday modules and integrations Provide architectural guidance on integrations with campus systems (e.g., student information systems, budgeting tools, identity management, etc.) Develop and maintain documentation of technical architecture, process flows, governance decisions, and system dependencies Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field 5+ years of experience in ERP systems, including 3+ years working with Workday in a technical or functional lead capacity In-depth understanding of Workday’s architecture, including security, business processes, reporting, integrations, and release cycles Experience with Workday configuration in at least two functional areas (HCM, Finance, or Student) Demonstrated ability to partner across departments to improve business processes through system optimization Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to explain complex systems in accessible terms Preferred Qualifications
Workday certifications in one or more modules Experience in a higher education environment, preferably within a public university or multi-institution consortium Experience with Workday Extend, Workday Prism, or Workday integrations (e.g., Studio, EIB, or Core Connectors) Knowledge of IT governance and project management methodologies in higher education Conditions Of Employment
