Growing Environmental & Civil Construction Company in Kent, WA, seeking a Controller.
Responsibilities include AP, AR, PR, Job costing, Pay estimates, Multi-State taxes, Budgets, Sales Reports, and Inventory management. This position manages an accounting team of five. Ideal candidates are reliable, diligent, good managers, self-motivated, with integrity, and steady in their work history. Advanced Excel skills are required; Sage 100 experience is a plus. A Bachelor’s Degree is required, CPA preferred.
The Controller directs financial activities, prepares reports summarizing and forecasting the company's financial position, manages depreciation of capital assets, and oversees accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing departments. They supervise record keeping, establish controls for efficiency and honesty, and oversee financial reporting, including annual reports, tax returns, and government reports. They explain financial policies and procedures, plan budgets, and recommend major economic objectives. They manage the accounting department, prepare budgets, regulatory reports, advise on operational adjustments, arrange audits, and advise on insurance coverage. They may also oversee financial planning, procurement, and investment of funds.
Job Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of all accounting functions and procedures.
Expertise in Construction Integrated Job Cost and General Ledger.
Proficiency in Sage 100 and other accounting software for report and spreadsheet preparation.
Maintain and reconcile inventory records regularly.
Prepare weekly payrolls and ensure proper deposits for federal, state, and 401K accounts.
Manage company banking accounts, monitor cash balances, and optimize interest earnings.
Follow up on accounts receivable and collections.
Prepare monthly cash flow projections and bi-weekly trial balances.
Coordinate with Project Managers on invoicing.
Complete quarterly payroll tax returns and deposits.
Process accounts payable and subcontractor payments.
Accrue and remit sales taxes monthly.
Generate reports for insurance premiums, aged receivables, 401K, and Builders Risk insurance.
Maintain employee personnel files and assist with benefits questions.
Perform fiscal year-end close with CPA assistance.
Process employee W2s and 1099s.
Maintain project accounting files.
Interface with construction management to accurately charge invoices.
Familiarity with Procedures Manual & Employee Handbook.
