Overview
To support expansion of MESA Links, we are seeking a Network Controller to lead and build out the financial operations of the organization. The Controller reports to the Executive Director and serves on the senior leadership team. There is an opportunity for this role to become MESA’s first CFO as the network grows. This role focuses on developing and maintaining financial systems, overseeing compliance, managing audits, and supporting strategic financial planning. Base pay and context
Base pay range: $160,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr. The final offer is based on skills and experience. This posting reflects the Network Controller position at MESA Charter High School and MESA Links network in Brooklyn, NY. Job Responsibilities
Develop and maintain multi-year financial models and forecasts to support the network’s long-term sustainability and growth. Provide financial insights and recommendations to inform decisions on expansion, staffing, and capital investments. Budget Development & Management
Lead the annual budgeting process for the network and individual schools, ensuring alignment with funding, programmatic needs, and compliance. Monitor budget-to-actual performance monthly and address variances. Manage cash and philanthropic grants. Accounting Operations & Internal Controls
Manage accounting policies, internal controls, and procedures for accurate financial reporting and safeguarding assets. Follow the organization0s documented processes. Oversee day-to-day accounting functions with CSBM, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. Ensure timely month-end and year-end closings in line with GAAP and nonprofit standards. Prepare timely financial statements for internal and external stakeholders and present reports clearly to leadership and boards. Analyze financial trends to support strategic decisions. Compliance & Audit Readiness
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for charter schools and nonprofits. Lead annual financial audits across entities and coordinate with external auditors. Manage entity mergers to meet compliance requirements and maintain supporting documentation. Serve as liaison to external providers, banks, auditors, and government agencies. Qualifications
Bachelor0s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred Experience with Intacct and QuickBooks Online 10+ years of progressive accounting/financial management experience, preferably in education or nonprofit sectors Strong experience with audits and regulatory compliance Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems; knowledge of charter school financial practices is a plus Strong communication and relationship-building skills Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities with collaborative mindset across campuses Alignment with MESA0s core beliefs and educational philosophy To apply
