Occupational Summary
Collaborate and participate in the preparation of the operational budget and coordinate the distribution of various financial reports and analyses. Compile, analyze, and report on the financial performance of departmental operating units through data gathering, organizing information, and analyzing historical results. Serve as the front-line point of contact for the finance department, providing excellent customer service for financial activities within the College of Arts & Sciences, including corporate card program management, commitment management, security administration, policy interpretation and application, and financial-related business manager training and onboarding. Provide and respond to technical inquiries related to the financial operations and processes of the University. This position reports to the Arts & Sciences Finance Management Analyst III.
Work Performed
Financial Management
Analyze monthly financial statements to ensure proper charging of operating revenues and expenditures according to departmental procedures.
Provide professional, technical support, and consultation to A&S Departments through complex analysis and judgment in interpreting laws, regulations, practices, and procedures.
Collaborate with departmental directors, unit managers, and personnel to prepare semi-annual and annual budgets. Conduct analytical reviews to identify solutions while adhering to financial laws, regulations, and policies.
Provide guidance and make recommendations to improve financial systems; perform in-house audits; analyze deficiencies and gather information for special projects.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare monthly income statements and interpret results.
Monitor and report on financial performance of departments and divisions, comparing actuals against goals.
Guide departments in generating Excel models for presentations and reports.
Develop financial goals and capital analyses, monitor plans, and advise on procurement and compliance.
Develop proposals, including budgets, project specifications, and marketing strategies.
Write stewardship reports for endowments in coordination with the Donor Relations office.
Prepare annual proposals and reports for the Biddle Foundation via their online portal.
Complete month-end procedures, reconcile accounts, and generate reports on delinquent items or interest charges.
Manage problem invoice reports and distribute to impacted departments.
Maintenance
Manage MOUs, endowments, commitments, and reconcile accounts regularly.
Administer the Non-Regular Rank Professional Development Fund, monitor spending, and reconcile costs.
Review and process financial statements, checks, and journal vouchers.
Serve as backup for grant closeout and year-end activities.
Oversee security permissions and workflow setup.
Manage corporate cards, check requests, and purchase orders for Dean’s staff.
Collaborate on recording and storing financial data in operational metrics.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or related field.
Experience:
Two years in accounting or budget review, or equivalent education and experience.
Skills:
Problem-solving, organizational skills, communication, negotiation, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with Duke@Work, SAP, or similar software.
Pay Range:
USD $59,829.00 to USD $86,700.00 annually, with comprehensive benefits.
