Overview

Under the general supervision from the Director of Financial Aid, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) Financial Aid Administrator will guide and manage the overall Financial Aid application process for student aid applicants at NYFA. The Financial Aid Administrator maintains Federal regulatory compliance through experience and expertise in Federal student aid regulations; and must have Federal student aid administration at the campus level. Responsibilities

Assists continuing and transfer students through the Federal Student Aid (FSA) application or FAFSA. Advises new, continuing and transfer student aid applicants and their families on available student aid programs and funding options. Provides necessary Financial Aid related education and materials to student and/or parents. Determines student eligibility for FSA program funds through federal regulatory requirements and need determination. Provides applicants with tuition financing plans. Monitors student documents for completion and accuracy. Creates student aid checklist ensuring FSA funding requirements have been met prior to fund disbursements. Advises Financial Aid Director of any anomalies in the award process or potential student issues. Assists other NYFA campuses as needed during peak processing time periods. Assists the Financial Aid Director with the SAP notification process by providing guidance to students that have not met SAP standards and coordinating all appeals through the student’s academic advisor. Participates in the Returning Student Clearance process managed by the registrar’s office. Reviews all cost of attendance appeals and prepares documents for approval by the Director of Financial Aid. Collaborates with the Dean of Students or Academic Advisor to review implications to the student’s award when evaluating a change of status. Provides assistance with the clearance report for all continuing students. Maintains current expertise in all educational compliance related issues. Attends training workshops for continuous updates in industry and compliance requirements. Assists the Financial Aid Director with support projects as assigned. Manages FA staff at the New York Campus. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid and senior management. Qualifications

Knowledge and competencies in federal compliance, customer service and counseling methods related to Financial Aid administration at the campus level. Demonstrated ability to work as a team with other Financial Aid staff members. Ability to work without close supervision as well as in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated willingness and flexibility to handle multiple projects at one time during peak times and prioritize based on immediacy. Strong organizational and collaborative skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with faculty, staff, and student populations. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds including students and parents. Excellent skills in database management and record keeping. Strong customer service skills with the ability to meet and serve the public, both in person and by telephone, tactfully and effectively. Ability to understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to analyze and present complex data. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ethical and honest with a high level of confidentiality. Service and action oriented – does what it takes to meet the expectations of customers. Collaborative – enlists information from all sources to ensure the best solution to an issue. Education, Experience & Certification

Associate Degree in related field. Experience may substitute for experience up to two (2) years. Experience working in Federal Student Aid administration at a higher education/academic level. Three (3) or more years of experience working with FSA programs. Specialized training in compliance of Title IV funding programs. Active affiliation with CASFAA. Experience working in a fast-paced multi-tasking results driven environment with attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
