About the Role The

Cost Accountant

will be responsible for overseeing inventory valuation, explaining variances on the P&L, ensuring accuracy of inventory data, and preparing inventory reporting for all retail stores, factories, and the distribution center. This role will require frequent collaboration with the teams across Bedrock, Filson and Shinola, including but not limited to retail operations, supply chain, logistics, purchasing, planning and production. The Cost Accountant will ensure inventory and inventory costing is current, reliable, and accurate in the ERP (NetSuite) and across the various reporting platforms the business currently utilizes. A successful candidate in this role will provide the insights necessary for leadership to optimize pricing strategies, forecast profitability, and find ways to cut costs on our products.

Responsibilities

Maintain and reconcile inventory accounts across stores, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers, ensuring accuracy in valuation and reporting

Analyze inventory item costs, identify discrepancies, and work collaboratively with supply chain systems to implement corrective actions

Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) including variance analysis and report outs to the operations team

Provide support to Supply Chain teams item cost records in the ERP as they relate to inventory valuation, costing, and set up to ensure accurate financial reporting

Provide support throughout the standard cost roll process by validating accuracy of inputs and ensuring there are logical explanations for pre/post cost roll fluctuations

Collaborate with store operations, manufacturing, procurement, and distribution teams to ensure inventory transactions in the ERP are reconciled

Work collaboratively with the operations and retail teams to monitor and execute cycle counting and full physical counting activities

Support the external audit process by owning all inventory and COGS requests from auditors

Identify opportunities for process improvements in inventory management, cost tracking, and reporting

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred

5+ years of experience in inventory or cost accounting, preferably within a retail, manufacturing, or distribution environment

Strong understanding of GAAP and familiarity with both standard and average costing practices

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-location environment

Experience with retail inventory management systems a plus

Prior experience with NetSuite ERP a plus
