Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Revenue Specialist to perform cashier work for the County Treasurer's office. This work will include collecting and posting to appropriate accounts, taxes, fees, and other monies paid to the County.
Verifies, collects, and posts County revenue to appropriate accounts for taxes, water, accounts receivable, recordation tax, permits, red light and parking tickets, MVA, dog tags, animal citations, deposits from other County offices and agencies, and any other revenue due to the County. Processes legal documents that include deeds, deeds of trusts and other legal instruments.
Collects and posts revenue brought to the counter, sorts, records, and posts payments received through night drop
and online. Collects cash and issues VanGo tickets. Researches speed and red-light camera citations and collect payments. Communicates with the Sheriff’s Office for the release of flags for red light and speed camera citations that are flagged due to delinquency by the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). Calculates interest for delinquent property taxes. Processes and collects seized funds confiscated by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Reconciles a cash drawer, prepares cashier reports and bank deposits. Responds to inquiries at the counter and on the telephone concerning both tax and utility matters. Types correspondence, letters, and maintains a correspondence log and file. Verifies and stamps deeds and deeds of trust for collection of recordation and transfer tax. Verifies and mails Accounts Payable, Section 8, and jury checks. Performs duties such as permit transfers, entering parking tickets, handling returned checks, and balancing MVA reports. Sorts and verifies payments received by mail and posts payments to appropriate accounts. Processes motor vehicle registrations and reconciles such reports. Verifies and processes cash deposits brought to office from other offices and agencies. Assists Deed Specialist with the processing of Deeds and Deeds of Trusts which includes the calculation of recordation and transfer taxes. Calculates property redemptions for tax sale properties. Notarizes certificates of sale and tax sale deeds resulting from annual tax sale. Issues permits, dog licenses and tag a bags. Processes office mail and maintains stock of supplies and forms. Sorts documents, verifies amounts and totals, and prepares reports thereon. Performs duties of other positions in the office as required. Researches tax addresses that are returned as “undeliverable”. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Graduation from a recognized high school or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED). Two (2) years of cashier and/or bookkeeping experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Licenses or Certifications: None. Special Requirements/Qualifications: Successful completion of credit record investigation. Work is subject to frequent interruptions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including the operation of standard office equipment such as 10-key calculators (by touch), desktop computers, copiers, printers, word processors and typewriters. Ability to carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations. Ability to perform cashier duties quickly and accurately. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work. Ability to answer questions from customers regarding interest and how there tax bill is calculated. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary with frequent periods of light physical activity and is performed in office surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.
