Foundation Controller
Northern Arizona University is seeking a Foundation Controller to supervise and coordinate all monthly accounting activities, including month-end journal entries, reconciliations of accounts, balancing of investment accounts, and monthly investment divesting. This position is a hybrid position, allowing the incumbent to complete work at both an NAU site and a non-centralized site with or without accommodation. The position is posted as Foundation Controller, with a working title, and the NAU system title is Director, Financial Oversight. The position can work at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus or the Phoenix North Valley Campus. About the Department/College: NAU Advancement | Foundation engages students, alumni, parents, friends, and the broader NAU community to connect, invest, and inspire current and future Lumberjacks. The Director, Financial Oversight with a working title: NAU Foundation Controller, supervises and is responsible for the coordination of all monthly accounting activities. This position works closely with constituents to provide financial support, ensure correct recording of financial transactions, and ensure accuracy and completeness of information. Responsibilities Include: Financial Operations (50%): Directs operational accounting activity, prepares and provides oversight of financial transactions, manages financial applications, leads year-end procedures, and oversees annual audit and tax filings. People Management (20%): Oversees a team responsible for accounting and finance operations, delivers formal feedback, plans work, resolves conflicts, and addresses performance issues. Processes, Policies & Guidelines (15%): Develops, assesses, and executes policies and operational procedures, provides guidance and training, and serves as a subject matter expert for NAU Foundation financial policies and procedures. Financial Support (10%): Serves as the main financial liaison and resource for stakeholders, oversees account and fund correspondence, and provides quality customer service. Other (5%): Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. 5 years of accounting/finance experience. 3 years of management or supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in accounting, finance, or a related field. Finance experience in higher education. Working knowledge of financial software and constituent database programs. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Expert knowledge of financial operations tools, procedures, processes, policies, and concepts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Skill in detailed and complex numerical computations and reports. Ability to supervise team members, coach and mentor others, and communicate effectively. Compensation: Salary range begins at $89,551, with annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
