Overview

2025-2026 Associate Teacher @ Mata Intermediate Purpose: This position is a two-year commitment leading to a full-time teaching position. This is a non-contracted position with no expectation of employment beyond the school year if the candidate fails to obtain the required teaching credentials. The position may be reassigned to another campus due to enrollment and staffing adjustments. This transitional role leads to a full-time teaching position. Teachers will provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to foster growth and help them develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The teacher will serve as the Teacher of Record for a classroom and will receive oversight of instructional planning and practices for content-area instruction. Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Agrees to pursue Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of subject matter in assigned position Knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Experience preferred but not required

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Serve a diverse population of students who may participate in state/federal programs as well as general education. Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Abide by the Alief ISD Code of Civility. Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies). Confer with and foster professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators per building and district guidelines. Plan and participate in all meetings and provide appropriate documentation for students regarding admissions, reviews, progress, grades, dismissals, conferences, etc. Comply with state and federal laws, district policies, rules, regulations and administrative directives as they exist or may be amended.

Instructional Strategies

Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula; multiple preparations may be necessary. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA and district curriculum requirements; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology to reflect student learning needs. Implement instructional modifications and accommodations per ARD, LPAC, 504, and RtI committees for students receiving services under district, state, and federal guidelines. Collaborate with special education teachers and interventionists to modify curricula for struggling general education and special education students according to IEPs. Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Diagnose learning needs and seek appropriate intervention methods with building and district leadership.

Student Growth and Development

Assess ongoing student accomplishments and needs; maintain records and provide feedback and progress reports per guidelines; administer state assessments as appropriate. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

Create an inviting, safe, and supportive learning environment appropriate to students’ developmental levels and interests. Implement an effective discipline system aligned with policies and rules governing student conduct. Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.

Professional Growth and Development

Participate in professional development to improve job-related skills. Comply with state, district, and federal laws and district policies for classroom teachers as they may be amended. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain technology competence to meet current and future needs. Implement alternative instructional methods as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directs the work of any assigned instructional aide(s).

Evaluation

Performance in this role is evaluated according to the Board’s policy on evaluation of Associate Teacher Personnel.

Physical/Mental Demands and Environment

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may require climbing stairs. Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (15-45 pounds). Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible districtwide travel; campuses are temperature controlled with hard floors. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Hiring administrators review applications, interview, and recommend for hire. Non-Contractual Agreement Pay Grade P00 187 Days Salary Range: $45,000 Minimum

(Candidates who are not enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program-ACP) $51,500 Maximum

(Requires the candidate to be actively enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program-ACP) 2025-2026 Salary Schedule Salary is based on working 187 days. Working fewer days results in less salary. Substitutes are not internal.
