UC Irvine The Department of Physics & Astronomy is one of the largest academic departments in the School of Physical Sciences at UCI. The position supports the Department’s administrative duties related to a population of approximately 290 people, including 55 faculty, 80 non-senate academics, 14 career staff, and 185 graduate students. This role may begin full time on-site, with a six-month probationary period after which a hybrid/remote schedule may be considered, based on productivity and supervisor approval.

Responsibilities

Lead the submission of Contract & Grant (C&G) proposals from prospective sponsors including federal agencies, private foundations, and for-profit entities.

Develop research proposals, specifically the budget, budget justification, and supporting documentation for pre-award submissions.

Maintain C&G records in compliance with institutional and sponsor policies.

Serve as the subject matter expert for the department on proposal submissions, including NASA, JPL, and DoD, where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of salaries, budgets, expenses, and other factors.

Independently develop research proposals or awards and advise on complex proposals and awards involving multiple investigators, subawards, task budgets, and option years.

What It Takes to Be Successful

Thorough understanding of federal and non-federal sponsor guidelines for research and education activities, preferably in a university environment.

Strong knowledge of grant funding processes, financial practices, and relevant policies and systems.

Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions and adapt to changing priorities.

Ability to perform complex financial analysis and produce customized reports; strong spreadsheet and database skills.

Independent judgment, strong organizational and communication skills, and customer service focus.

Up-to-date knowledge of compliance regulations in research administration; knowledge of generally accepted accounting and reporting principles.

Collaborative skills to work with faculty, staff, and campus personnel; strong writing and verbal communication skills to draft persuasive materials while adhering to sponsor guidelines.

Ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment and to present information clearly.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training; 3-5 years of contracts and grants pre-award experience.

Compensation and Benefits The expected pay range for this recruitment is

$71,600

-

$99,500
