Overview
Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist – Manufacturing Facility (1 hour East of Lafayette, LA) Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced EH&S Specialist to lead and support environmental, health, safety, security, and emergency response programs at a manufacturing and distribution facility. This role is hands-on and requires significant time on the production floor, engaging with employees and supervisors to identify improvements, implement behavior-based safety practices, and strengthen compliance within processes. The ideal candidate has experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), hazardous waste management, and a background in chemical processing environments. Strong training, communication, and leadership skills are essential.
Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal EH&S regulations, including written programs, recordkeeping, reports, inspections, monitoring, and training. Maintain compliance with environmental regulations (Title 40 CFR), including:
Solid and hazardous waste management and disposal Clean Air Act compliance Clean Water Act compliance Emergency response and pollution prevention planning
Develop and deliver engaging safety and environmental training programs for all levels of employees. Establish and track EH&S goals, objectives, and reporting mechanisms. Coordinate and investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents to determine root causes and develop corrective/preventive actions. Act as liaison to local emergency response providers. Conduct EH&S reviews for new product development, facility modifications, manufacturing process changes, and new equipment installations per OSHA PSM requirements. Create, update, and maintain SOPs, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and written compliance programs. Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring and communicate exposure information/PPE requirements. Lead initiatives to continuously improve the overall working environment and safety culture. Provide coaching and support to employees, supervisors, and management teams on proactive risk management. Administer timely disposal of process waste and finished goods waste streams. Conduct audits, identify non-compliance, and drive corrective actions. Serve as Facility Security Officer to maintain compliance with DHS facility security requirements. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in safety, regulatory, chemical, or related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of practical experience in EH&S within chemical, regulatory, or manufacturing environments. Proven experience as an EH&S manager or specialist with ability to write reports, policies, and training programs. Strong working knowledge of OSHA PSM elements, including:
Training, contractor safety, PSSR, permit-to-work, incident investigation, MOC, compliance audits, emergency response, program maintenance.
Skilled in data analysis, risk assessment, and incident investigation. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail, observation, and problem-solving ability. Instructions to Apply
