Part-time Instructor General Summary: The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts ) develops the next generation of artistically gifted, diverse scholar artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. The school approaches the development of students through a whole-student approach and through a continuous learning environment for all staff to continuously develop their understanding of our scholar-artists. We strive to build upon and improve our practices to make sure we are always serving all of our students to the best of our abilities. Position Overview: The Senior Repertory Dance Instructor will play a critical role in the advancement of our senior dancers, guiding them through an in-depth exploration of dance that emphasizes creativity, resilience, and artistic expression. This position merges technical training with mentorship, audition preparation, and career planning for aspiring professional dancers. Key Responsibilities: Audition Preparation
Guide students in preparing for college, company, and summer program auditions. Conduct mock auditions while providing individualized feedback to enhance performance. Assist in selecting audition materials that align with students' strengths and career goals. Coach students on preparing professional headshots, resumes, and audition reels. Solo Creation & Performance Coaching Mentor students through the process of creating original or adapted solo works. Provide support in music selection, choreography, and performance refinement. Offer critical feedback focusing on technique, artistry, and storytelling through movement. Oral Presentation & Artist Statements
Facilitate workshops to assist students in writing and presenting artist statements. Coach students on public speaking skills for presentations and adjudications. Encourage clear articulation of artistic choices and the creative process. Technical & Artistic Development Deliver high-level training in a diverse fusion of dance styles. Build versatility, performance quality, and choreographic literacy among students. Offer supplemental instruction in improvisation, composition, and conditioning techniques. Professionalism & Self-Representation Instruct students on creating digital portfolios and understanding audition etiquette. Conduct mock interviews and professional readiness workshops to prepare students for the industry. Emphasize the importance of personal branding, ethics, and goal-setting in the arts. Qualifications Qualifications: Significant professional experience in dance performance and education. Strong background in various dance styles and pedagogical techniques. Exceptional communication and mentoring skills with a passion for nurturing young artists. Ability to foster a supportive and creative classroom environment.
