Today Clatsop County is one of nine Home Rule counties in Oregon. Five non-partisan elected Commissioners set policy and appoint a full-time County Manager, who is responsible for daily operations. County services are provided through ten divisions: County Administration (County Manager), Assessment and Taxation, Budget and Finance, Community Development, County Clerk, Juvenile, Public Health, Public Works, and the District Attorney, and Sheriff’s Offices. The county also administers a road district, a rural law enforcement district, and a local sewer district. The Facilities Department reports to the county administration division. THE POSITION
Under supervision of the Lieutenant, this position’s duties is to enforce federal, state, and local traffic, criminal, and civil laws and ordinances; patrol roads, waterways, and business and residential areas; investigate traffic accidents, crimes, and complaints related to criminal law enforcement; respond to citizen calls for service; and serve civil process. This position is represented by the Clatsop County Law Enforcement Association (CCLEA) union. MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 21 years of age, a United States citizen and possess and maintain driving privileges in the state of Oregon within 30 days after employment. High school diploma or demonstrate successful completion of General Education Development (GED) test. Must meet DPSST “Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer” OAR 259-008-0010. Must pass entry-level pre-employment evaluations, including Oregon Physical Ability Test (ORPAT), drug screen, and psychological evaluation prior to appointment. Must not have been convicted of any felonies nor any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug, nor any law involving dishonesty or moral turpitude as identified in Oregon Administrative Rules 259-008-0070. Possess Basic Corrections Certificate or can obtain within one year of original appointment. REQUESTED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous college-level training or experience in law enforcement or corrections. Knowledge of the county area. Previous training related to police equipment and/or operations, e.g. first aid, CPR, hazardous materials, firearms training, LEDS general level certification, etc. TO APPLY
