Reporting to the VP Land - Minerals, the Landman will be responsible for all aspects of oil and gas development and contract administration associated with the 2.1 million acres of Permanent University Fund mineral estate. This position supports and develops relationships with University Lands departments and staff, including Surface Land Team, Regulatory Team, Geology and Engineering, Accounting, IT/GIS, and other internal counterparts as needed to responsibly administer leases, enforce lessee obligations under agreements, and oversee surface compliance related to mineral development on PUF lands. The Landman reports directly to the VP Land - Minerals and indirectly to the SVP of Land for University Lands; and will interact with the executive team through written and verbal updates, reports, and summaries. Essential Functions
Support the development of the mineral estate through leasing, negotiation of oil and gas agreements, drafting agreements based on negotiated deal terms and UL practices, and support Land Administration ownership records and lease terminations. Independently negotiate, draft, and finalize oil and gas agreements related to operation and development of PUF minerals, such as Oil and Gas Leases, Drilling and Development Agreements, Production Sharing Agreements, and Contracts for Development; identify opportunities to update form agreements and assess long-term effects of negotiated terms; suggest contract revisions to align with industry practices. Establish and maintain processes for document management, amendment/clean-up of all PUF-related agreements, communicate terms to other departments, obtain advice from other departments during negotiations, prepare contract/executive summaries and deal tracking reports, and keep executive management informed of land strategy and agreements. Identify and create end-of-life procedures for Development Agreements and leases, including evaluating lease language, field rules, and development agreement language, and drafting release documents to be filed of record. Ensure compliance with oil and gas agreements (offset well obligations, cessation of production, lease extensions, payment dates, shut-in monitoring) and understand implied covenants and lessor rights for enforcement of lessee obligations. Utilize industry and technical expertise to identify opportunities, resolve conflicts, and facilitate relationships between lessees and the surface/mineral estates as appropriate for the best interest of the Permanent University Fund. Maintain cross-functional relationships within University Lands (Regulatory, Surface Land Team, Accounting, Technical Team) and serve as a positive external representative with industry participants, surface lessees, grazing lessees, trade associations, and regulatory bodies. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of oil and gas leases, lease management, land and title issues, RRC rules and regulations, and general Texas oil and gas law. Ability to independently negotiate and draft oil and gas agreements, research and analyze issues, understand legal terminology and statutes related to University Lands. Ability to evaluate complex issues and propose a range of solutions; High professionalism, judgment, responsiveness, and dependability; Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs; Independent thinker and driven self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills; Ability to work effectively as a team member and contribute to others’ success, with willingness to help others grow and progress. Desire for personal and professional growth and potential to lead others. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Each additional year of experience over the minimum may substitute for one year of college (30 semester hours) on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, or related field. 1-5 years of direct professional petroleum land experience. Experience with multiple mineral ownership types and negotiation of a wide variety of petroleum agreements and Texas oil and gas regulations. Permian Basin experience preferred. RPL or CPL Certification through AAPL preferred. Working Conditions

The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to a minimum of 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. Participation in TRS is mandatory.
