Job Overview
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requires a Senior Oracle DBA to provide development and optimization support for applications using an Oracle database on AWS.
Responsibilities
Manage application schema design and extensions in development, test, and production environments for an Oracle database on a Linux platform.
Provide database technical support, performance tuning, application administration, and consulting for Oracle, Oracle Data Guard, and Oracle Exadata.
Lead the development of procedures and best practices for high‑volume application systems and database solutions for application modernization.
Provision and manage Oracle database instances on AWS/Linux and set up replication and high‑availability using tools like GoldenGate.
Monitor performance, troubleshoot problems, and perform backups and restores of Oracle databases.
Work with application developers to identify and refine data requirements, database design, and assist in SQL writing.
Qualifications
Demonstrable skills in designing schema, access patterns, locking strategy, and tuning Oracle databases in an enterprise environment.
Experience configuring, monitoring, and cache management for Oracle database servers.
Must have experience implementing and supporting Oracle on AWS/Linux platform.
Strong experience allocating system storage, planning future storage requirements, and managing storage using Oracle ASM.
Understanding of Exadata hardware and software components.
Proficiency in one or more shell scripting languages.
Experience authoring code in SQL and PL/SQL.
Experience designing and implementing backup/restore services and Disaster Recovery solutions.
Experience installing and upgrading database software and patching.
Good analytical, technical, time‑management, and communication skills.
Participate in on‑call rotation and weekend work.
Preferred Experience
Oracle Exadata and Automatic Storage Management (ASM) experience.
Cloud platform experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Key achievement in Oracle database area as senior Oracle DBA.
