Coordinator of Disabilities Ministry (part time)
The Coordinator of Disabilities Ministry supports parishes and families by serving persons with disabilities through the ministries of the Church. This role encompasses a three-pronged approach of awareness, inclusion, and specialized or adaptive resources. This position is a three-year part-time position with the opportunity to become full-time. Summary/objective
Coordinator of Disabilities Ministry (part time)
The Coordinator of Disabilities Ministry supports parishes and families by serving persons with disabilities through the ministries of the Church. This role encompasses a three-pronged approach of awareness, inclusion, and specialized or adaptive resources. This position is a three-year part-time position with the opportunity to become full-time.
Essential Functions
Assist clergy and lay ministers in reaching persons with disabilities, ensuring access to catechesis and the Sacraments, including identifying adaptive catechetical resources and providing formation opportunities for leaders and catechists. Train and assist mentors to serve discipleship formation staff and volunteers who will support and collaborate with parish leaders to promote inclusion of persons with disabilities into parish life. Coordinate events and initiatives to promote awareness and inclusion in the Church and local community. Collaborate with other offices and departments in the Curia, as well as local organizations maximize the number of persons with disabilities who are served and included in ministries of the archdiocese and its parishes.
Competencies
Excellent oral and written communication skills A thorough understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church and the directives of the Magisterium, especially as they relate to evangelization and catechesis of persons with disabilities Knowledge of available adaptive curricula, programs and supports for persons with disabilities in the areas of sacramental preparation, discipleship formation, and evangelization Strong administrative and organizational skills Ability to work collaboratively and foster teamwork

Physical demands
Position requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. May involve some lifting, carrying, pushing/or pulling of objects and materials (5-50 pounds). May involve extended periods of time standing or sitting at a keyboard or workstation. May involve repetitive motion (i.e., typing). May involve climbing stairs.
Travel Required
50-70% within the Archdiocese
Required Education And Experience
3 years of experience in Catholic ministry, parish, or school setting with persons with disabilities Catechist certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit or equivalent
Preferred Education And Experience
5 years’ experience in Catholic ministry or school setting with persons with disabilities Undergraduate degree in special education, psychology, social work, theology, or ministry or equivalent experience
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Candidate must be a practicing Catholic who embraces Church teaching on persons with disabilities Certificate of completion of Protecting God’s Children or willingness to attend workshop Able to work some evenings and weekends Must have experience with Office 365
