Overview
Externship experience at an NVA Equine hospital offers students practical exposure in an independent equine practice and insights into the daily operations of an equine hospital. Students will work alongside veterinarians and interns to gain experience with lameness diagnosis and treatment, client communication skills, reproductive care, surgery, emergency medicine, imaging, ambulatory, dentistry, and preventive medicine. Students may assist with out-patient and hospitalized cases during business hours and after-hours emergencies. Externships are available for current veterinary students regardless of class year, with a preference for fourth-year students. Responsibilities
Participate in lameness diagnosis and treatment, and assist with related procedures as directed. Support client communication and education under supervision. Engage in reproductive care, surgery, emergency medicine, imaging, ambulatory work, dentistry, and preventive medicine. Assist with out-patient and hospitalized cases during business hours and after-hours emergencies. Qualifications
Current veterinary student; all class years considered. Previous equine experience is required. Interest in gaining practical experience in an equine hospital setting. About NVA and Benefits
