The CDL Examiner conducts commercial driver’s license (CDL) testing and evaluations to ensure applicants meet Arkansas and federal safety standards for operating commercial motor vehicles. Responsibilities include administering knowledge and skills tests, verifying applicant qualifications, and ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Primary Responsibilities
Administer knowledge (written) and skills (road) tests for CDL applicants according to Arkansas and FMCSA standards. Evaluate driver performance in pre-trip inspections, vehicle control, and on-road driving tests. Verify applicant eligibility, including age, medical certification, and driving record. Maintain accurate records of test results and applicant qualifications. Ensure testing procedures comply with state and federal regulations. Uphold safety standards during testing and vehicle maintenance. Identify and report irregularities or fraudulent activity. Provide instructions and feedback to applicants. Communicate with driving schools, law enforcement, and regulatory officials. Assist with testing site setup and maintenance. Knowledge and Skills
Understanding of commercial vehicle operation, traffic laws, and FMCSA regulations. Ability to assess driving skills and vehicle inspections objectively. Strong judgment and attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High ethical standards and confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of experience in commercial driving, transportation safety, or related fields. Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License without restrictions. Meeting FMCSA medical certification requirements. Completion of CDL Examiner training and certification prior to testing.
