Business Intelligence (BI) Data Estate Developer
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) fintech transformation through Financial Management Business Transformation (FMBT). Supporting design and development of enterprise data solutions enabling advanced analytics, reporting, and decision‑making across VA financial and operational landscape.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines, data models, and BI solutions within the VA Data Estate environment using Microsoft Power BI.
Develop and optimize ETL processes to support reporting, analytics, and system integrations.
Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
Implement data quality checks, error handling, and performance tuning to ensure system efficiency and data integrity.
Support migration and transformation of legacy datasets into modern VA Data Estate environment.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and solution design documents.
Provide production support and troubleshooting for data‑related issues and user queries.
Qualifications
BA/BS or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of related work experience.
Experience in data engineering, BI development, or database development.
Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Synapse, or Azure Data Factory.
Proven ability to design and implement ETL processes, data models, and data pipelines.
Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools for report and dashboard development.
Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and validation.
Understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality best practices.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a large, matrixed federal program environment.
Desired
Experience supporting federal government financial or operational data environments.
Familiarity with Momentum Financials or similar ERP systems.
Experience with Azure DevOps, Data Lake, and Databricks.
Knowledge of data warehousing principles and cloud data architecture.
Understanding of federal reporting and compliance requirements.
Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and cross‑functional team collaboration.
