Job Description
Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a
Technical Services Field Engineer – Variable Frequency Drives & Motors
to support specialized VFD and control systems for large, medium-voltage motor drives in heavy industrial environments. This is a client-facing, field-based role with extended travel and performance incentives.
Essential Duties
Serve as the subject matter expert on VFDs, including closed-loop tuning and high-power, medium-voltage motor drives
Troubleshoot, repair, and commission VFD systems at client sites, often in maritime crane or steel manufacturing environments
Work from elevated platforms up to 250 feet when required
Provide remote diagnostics and technical support when not on-site
Collaborate with suppliers and clients to configure systems and resolve failures
Maintain up-to-date service documentation, CRM entries, and detailed field service reports
Train client staff on operation, maintenance, and safety procedures
Participate in after-hours support rotations and extended site deployments
Recommend value-add services and system enhancements
Follow all safety standards and maintain relevant certifications
Use a company-issued corporate card for travel and job-related expenses
Requirements/Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field, or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years of field engineering experience with VFDs, power conversion systems, and PLC integration
Familiarity with PLCs from Toshiba, GE, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi Electric
Proficiency in closed-loop control systems, diagnostics, and commissioning
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for customer interactions
Ability to work from heights and in challenging industrial environments
Willingness to travel up to 50% or more, including international locations
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years in technical services or field engineering roles in industries like maritime cranes or steel production
Experience with legacy and modern VFD platforms (e.g., AC/DC2000, Innovation Series, etc.)
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, etc.
Fluency in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb and work at heights up to 250 feet
Capable of lifting and maneuvering industrial equipment during service work
Physically able to work in variable weather and site conditions during field assignments
Compensation & Perks
Base salary: $100,000 annually
Uplift pay: Additional $20,000 for extended field deployments
Five (5) weeks paid vacation
Site bonuses and travel incentive pay
Corporate credit card for travel and job-related expenses
Spouse travel covered for assignments over six weeks
