Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, AMXL JP — AMXL Japan is looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to contribute towards team vision and build the reports, dashboards, and applications necessary for business and operate them. We operate one of the largest e-commerce businesses in Japan. We strive to be Earth’s most customer-centric company and we are building a fulfillment network to deliver goods with fast delivery when customers want them. The environment around the logistics and retail industry is changing day by day, and our supply chain logistics is becoming more complex as Amazon Japan grows. There is a need to create and improve indicators and dashboards related to transportation, stable operation, and efficiency of operations, using AWS and Amazon internal tools.
Key responsibilities
The role requires setting day-to-day and strategic priorities, partnering effectively with customers and stakeholders. You establish a roadmap and successfully deliver BI solutions that meet the business needs.
The role requires building mechanisms and standards for ensuring engineering excellence (e.g. correctness and efficiency) and operational excellence (e.g. quality, consistency, and reliability).
The role requires defining metrics to measure your team’s progress, data/solution quality, and engineering/operational excellence.
The role requires delivering BI solutions for complex problems, often at the architectural level and often in conjunction with other engineering teams.
A day in the life You attend daily business reviews and understand what’s happening to key network metrics. You spend time with strategy & ops teams to find ways to meet customer expectations. You write quality documents that seek to plan, inform, and align internal stakeholders. You challenge the status quo and drive data-based decision making within your team. You take business trips within and outside Japan as required to build your skills and network or test your plans and assumptions. You are ready to jump in and take charge when problems and challenges emerge.
About the team Amazon Extra Large (AMXL) JP team is a single-threaded organization that owns Amazon’s end-to-end Heavy & Bulk (H&B) logistics network with our willing and equally customer-obsessed partners, offering shipping, service & support for consumers and companies in a safe, reliable, seamless, standardized, and sustainable way that surprises and delights our customers. Our delivery partners are experienced in H&B deliveries, providing special handling services such as Room of Choice Delivery, Installation/Assembly and Recycling/Haul-Away.
Our team includes a diverse group across operations, supply chain, tech, finance, planning, customer experience, business intelligence, and program management, and works closely across Amazon to constantly improve and scale our operations, always insisting on the highest standards and obsessing over delivering bigger smiles for our customers.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of professional or military experience
5+ years of SQL experience
Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills
Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
