Optimize, Innovate, and Support the Paper Industry as a Technical Service Engineer. We are a leading industrial solutions provider supporting the pulp & paper industry with cutting-edge roll covers, bowed rolls, and machine optimization technologies. Location and travel: This position is remote, but candidates must live in North Carolina or be willing to relocate to North Carolina to serve the territory. You will work with the region's Application Sales Engineer to drive performance improvements and support local paper mills with hands-on technical expertise. Travel opportunities exist across North Carolina and nearby South Carolina mills (expenses covered).
Responsibilities
Conduct paper machine audits, shutdown inspections, and service calls in close cooperation with the Application Sales Engineer.
Provide technical troubleshooting for roll-related challenges, identifying and implementing solutions.
Conduct nip impressions and press optimization studies to improve machine productivity and efficiency.
Support mills in setting up preventive maintenance programs and proper roll-keeping records.
Monitor key operating parameters (e.g., cooling water, roll temperatures) to identify potential issues early.
Build and maintain detailed customer databases for roll cover, bowed roll, and mechanical specifications.
Search for and recommend new cover and bowed roll applications to improve mill performance.
Prepare and share detailed visit reports and communicate opportunities or competitive insights with the Application Sales Engineer and leadership.
Relieve the Application Sales Engineer during vacations and contribute to regional sales efforts when needed.
Manage an expense budget in line with company policies.
What You Bring
Must live in North Carolina or be willing to relocate to North Carolina to serve the territory effectively.
Degree in Engineering or Business (or equivalent industry experience in maintenance, production, or sales in the pulp & paper industry).
Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with mill teams and internal sales colleagues.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management tools.
A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for solving customer challenges.
Willingness to travel regularly across North Carolina and parts of South Carolina (expenses covered).
Compensation and benefits
Salary: $90,000 - $125,000 per year
