POSITION TITLE: Aquatics Specialist (Part-Time) LOCATION/DEPT: Kroc Center REPORTS TO: Aquatics Director PAY GRADE: 203 PAY RANGE: $18.11-$21.74 DEPARTMENT MISSION To assist in accomplishing the mission of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Guest Services

Interact with guests in a manner that ensures the most enjoyable experience for all RJKCCC guests.

Provide direction and answers to questions as needed; maintain a professional attitude and problem-solving approach.

Provide oversight to the day-to-day activities of the aquatics programs and facilities.

Maintain all public and restricted areas in a neat and clean fashion.

Maintain activities on schedule; ensure events and activities begin and end on time.

Maintain equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities and enforce the equipment checkout program; report defects or needed repairs.

Adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and maintain the Kroc Center Code of Ethics.

Assist and direct guests in moving about the facility to avoid crowding and maximize service efficiency.

Handle phone inquiries promptly; answer basic questions or refer to appropriate staff for more in-depth inquiries.

Maintain a safe working environment and report any unsafe conditions immediately.

Report facility problems to the Aquatics Manager; ensure timely and accurate accident and incident reporting; report any suspected child abuse to the supervisor and Child Protective Services.

Coordinate responses in emergency situations and provide leadership to the Swim Team as needed.

Lead and coach the center swim team following ARC Learn To Swim and site guidelines; manage rosters and attendance; adhere to safety guidelines when teaching and coaching; care for equipment; report safety, security and personnel issues promptly; work as part of a team with management and coordinators.

Collaborate with other staff and direct guests with spiritual needs or questions to appropriate personnel.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

A High School Diploma preferred.

Experience as a lifeguard or similar position required.

Minimum age of 16 preferred.

Current certifications in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), Lifeguard Training; Water Safety Instruction Certification (WSI) required. Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.

Competencies

Swim proficiency with endurance; able to complete a 200-yard swim in under 5 minutes, tread water for 2 minutes, and retrieve a 10 lb dive brick and swim 10 yards with it.

Knowledge of basic swimming techniques and ability to teach swimming to all age groups.

Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use initiative and be a self-starter; attention to detail; positive attitude and flexibility.

Philosophy of education and child development aligned with the Center and The Salvation Army.

Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in leadership, counseling and education roles, including:

Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.

Demonstrate sensitivity to children’s individual needs; use positive discipline consistently.

Handle security and crisis situations calmly; seek supervision when needed; teach swimming to all age groups.

Promote the mission of The RJKCCC.

Physical Demands/Work Environment This position requires light to heavy physical work and the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. The employee will regularly use equipment used in an aquatics program. The work environment includes an office and outdoor/pool area with a low to high noise level. Standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Director must be worn.
