Paraeducator – Non-Mainstream Special Education – Structured Program SUPPORT Bethel School District is hiring a Paraeducator for a 1:1 support role with non-mainstream special education students in a self-contained classroom. The position assists certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities, promotes student learning, and ensures a safe and caring environment.

Position Hours and Pay • 7 hours per day for 4 days in the first year, then 2 days each subsequent year until certification is completed. • 6.5 hours per day, 164 days per year, and 3.5 hours for 14 days per year. • PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 – $24.76 per hour.

Responsibilities

Instructs moderately to severely handicapped students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities.

Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student progress and adjusts methods to meet diverse needs.

Assists in maintaining records, logs, charts, and other assessment materials.

Attends to students’ physical and safety needs, monitors for medical risks, and corrects behaviors according to district policies.

Provides personal hygiene assistance including toileting, grooming, feeding, and bathing.

Supports basic living skills and pre-vocational activities and facilitates peer integration when possible.

Establishes and maintains effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding progress and safety.

Provides physical assistance to students, follows and documents procedures established by the physical therapist.

Maintains cleanliness and hygiene of classroom and implements and equipment.

Alerts qualified district staff to student problems and assists with student safety and behavior regulation.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must complete the Right Response Training and receive qualifications within 3–5 months of hire; renewal is annual.

Must complete the online Autism Spectrum Disorder course within 3 months of hire.

Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and the General Paraeducator Certificate per state requirements or an associate degree, proof of completion of the Washington State Paraeducator Assessment, or two years of higher education per federal law.

Proficiency in reading, writing, and communication; knowledge of basic subject areas such as reading and math.

Ability to remain flexible, organize activities, follow and give instructions, and implement effective behavior management techniques.

Background check and fingerprinting required.

Required Training and Certifications • Right Response Training – qualifications within 3–5 months of hire. • Autism Spectrum Disorder course – complete within 3 months of hire. • Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate – complete per Washington State requirements. • Renewal of Right Response certification – annual prior to expiration date. • First Aid and CPR certification – may be required. • Hepatitis-B immunization offered.
