Corrections Officer - Department of Corrections - Goldendale, WA - Full Time - Non-Exempt, Salary set by Union, $24.40/hr. Open until filled. 2 Vacancies.

Performs activities related to the receipt, booking, custody, transport, and care of inmates under the jurisdiction of the Jail Administrator, following established policies and procedures. Ensures fair treatment of inmates and maintains a safe, secure, and sanitary correctional facility, prioritizing the health, welfare, safety, and security of inmates, staff, and visitors. Positions in this role are distinguished by responsibilities for inmate care and security.

MUST

complete both the physical ability test (PAT) and written exam offered by Public Safety Testing, and submit a Klickitat County Application for Employment for your application to be complete. Testing is available continuously through

Public Safety Testing . Klickitat County will cover 100% of testing fees.

Receive and process incoming inmates, including searches, recording personal articles, reviewing commitment orders, booking, fingerprinting, photographing, and cell placement. Maintain security during inmate movement.

Update computer and manual files to complete reports ensuring legal compliance.

Escort or supervise inmates during transit to court, hospital, or other facilities.

Coordinate inmate court appearances, manage related documents, and update court-related information in the system.

Operate control room systems, monitor surveillance equipment, observe inmate and visitor activity, and conduct head counts.

Search for contraband within the facility.

Inspect the facility for security and cleanliness, monitor gauges and alarm systems.

Select and supervise trustees for work assignments, ensuring their safety outside of the cell block.

Arrange inmate releases per procedures, assist with work release programs, and verify employment.

Prepare and submit reports on inmate populations and jail functions.

Provide inmate care, including serving meals, dispensing medications, summoning medical aid, and maintaining medical records.

Distribute commissary items, record payments, and maintain inventory.

Instruct inmates on jail rules, enforce regulations, and participate in disciplinary proceedings.

Respond to inquiries and complaints from inmates, staff, and the public, providing information or directing to appropriate personnel.

Manage supplies and re-stock as needed.

Serve warrants, verify identities.

May provide training or supervision to less experienced officers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of modern inmate care, custody, and control, and law enforcement principles. Ability to interpret laws, operate firearms safely, physically control resisting prisoners, and maintain composure under stress. Establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to perform essential physical functions.

Equivalent education and experience; a typical requirement is a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Licenses, Certificates, and Other Requirements

Successful completion of polygraph, drug tests, and all examinations.

Certification from the Washington State Corrections Officer Academy.

Control Board Certification.

Defensive Tactics Certification.

First Aid and CPR Certification.

Valid Washington State Driver's License.

U.S. citizenship and proof thereof.

No felony convictions or recent drug-related arrests.

Good moral character, as determined by background check.
