Bristol Public Schools POSITION: Indoor Track and Field Co-Ed Assistant Coach (.5)-Bristol Eastern High School
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Coach
REPORTS TO:
The head coach, in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
SUMMARY: To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the head coach. To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success while at the same time helping the athlete to achieve an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Assist the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities. Is accountable for and assists the head coach in the issuing, collection, and storage of all equipment. Is responsible for knowing the existing state and league regulations and abiding by them at all times. Assist the head coach and athletic coordinator in scheduling contests and practices. Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events and practices, and adheres to scheduled facility times. Makes recommendations to head coach for awards. Recommends to the head coach budgetary items for next year in their area of the program. Assist the head coach in explaining the team’s training rules, CIAC eligibility rules, and procedures for participation in athletics to all members of the team. Has thorough knowledge and implements the policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook. Secure and maintain cleanliness and monitor athletes in all athletic work areas. Understand the proper administrative line of command, and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Never criticizes, admonishes, or argues with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players or parents. Is responsible for the actions and conduct of the athletes whenever they are under their jurisdiction. Is responsible for the general health and welfare of students in their sport, and gives appropriate attention to athletes who are injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated. Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach. Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use. Assist the head coach in maintaining necessary paperwork, i.e. attendance records, inventory of uniforms and equipment, parent permission forms, etc. Is responsible for following the department’s set procedures for injured athletes. Works within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of the sport. Performs such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the head coach or Director of Athletics. Maintains current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of Education.
NOTE: Coaches must meet certification requirements set by the State of Connecticut.

Staff assigned to these positions is expected to perform their duties with the following expectations in mind:
All supervisory responsibilities must be fulfilled. In particular, students must be supervised at all times. Ability to read, interpret directions, write reports and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff. Ability to calculate figures and perform any math functions associated with the position and provides budget input when requested. Ability to apply common sense and deal with problems in a practical and reasonable manner. Ability to apply basic computer knowledge to the activity at hand. Ability to perform duties with all district and Board of Education guidelines and policies in mind. Knowledge of and/or experience in the activity. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position that may vary widely depending on the activity.
START DATE: AUGUST 1, 2025
SALARY:
Appropriate placement on the negotiated teachers A-2 schedule.
