Position Description The Department of Sociology at UC Davis offers one-year, non-renewable appointments as Recent Ph.D. Lecturers. These appointments are housed entirely within the Department of Sociology, and Recent Ph.D. Lecturers will teach Sociology courses exclusively. The number of positions and the percentage of time offered will depend upon funding and the number of courses available. These Recent Ph.D. Lecturer appointments are for one year only.
These appointments help recent Ph.D. candidates with demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching become more competitive in the challenging job market. By affording additional teaching experience and time for research while applying for tenure-track jobs, these positions provide important opportunities for professional development as recent Ph.D. candidates transition from graduate school to permanent positions.
Eligibility and Application Procedure: To be eligible for appointment, dissertations must be filed with Graduate Studies by June 12, 2025. To apply, please upload the following materials onto UC Recruit by no later than Thursday, August 28, 2025:
Letter of application describing qualifications, teaching interests, and name of a professor in the department who will submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Indicate when you filed or plan to file your dissertation.

Qualifications
File dissertation with Graduate Studies by June 12, 2025 (New PhDs from the UC Davis Sociology Department only).
Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching Sociology courses.
