Position Summary Overall administrative and supervisory responsibility for the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Programs of the department’s nationally accredited CPE program. Develops, organizes, and directs program activities related to provision of CPE programs, guidance and training to students, residents, interns, and Supervisory Education Students (SESs) in accordance with the hospital’s philosophy, mission statement, and objectives. Assists the Administrator, Pastoral Services in the leadership of the department.

Responsibilities

Oversee and administer the CPE program, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and institutional goals.

Develop and implement program activities, curricula, and training for students, residents, interns, and SESs.

Provide supervision and mentorship to CPE learners and staff; collaborate with hospital leadership on program direction.

Coordinate schedules, resources, and administrative processes to support CPE activities.

Education

Minimum Requirements:

Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent formal theological education from an ATS-accredited seminary. A PhD in Religious Studies, Theology, Pastoral Care and Counseling, or related field is preferred, with additional coursework in Business Administration.

Knowledge/Work Experience

Generally requires at least 5 years of experience as a CPE Supervisor and/or pastoral care provider in an acute health care setting, plus an additional three years of recent and progressive administrative experience with CPE programs.

Skills

Analytical abilities to develop and administer budgets, policies, and procedures; strong organizational and administrative skills to direct activities of employees and students.

High level of interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, patients, families, and staff, often during periods of stress.

Licensure, Certification, etc.

Current ordination as a minister, pastor, or recognized spiritual leader with endorsement for specialized ministry from a nationally recognized religious community.

ACPE-certification as a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Supervisor. Additional APC professional health care chaplain certification is preferred.

Machines, Tools, Equipment

Proficiency with computers for budgeting, tracking departmental productivity, and performance improvement monitoring.

Working Conditions Works primarily in an office environment and in patient care areas with possible exposure to communicable diseases when health precautions are followed. Regular exposure to emotional strain when providing supervision or pastoral care and emotional/spiritual support during crises for students, patients, families, and staff.

Other Information

Full time with benefits

Day shift Monday–Friday (8:00 am–5:00 pm) with some evenings to supervise clinicals; rotating weekends
