Job Summary
The Head Start Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing classroom activities for preschool children. This role involves working with children from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, and engaging with families to support the children’s overall development.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Group/Head Teacher, the Assistant Teacher shall be responsible for: Intervening in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, as mandated by Federal and State Law. Maintaining confidentiality of family records and information. Participating in all appropriate trainings and meetings. Assisting in the planning and execution of a program that takes into account the social, developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child. Assisting in the maintenance of observational logs and other record keeping for each child. Taking the responsibility of supervising the group of children when the Group Teacher is not in the classroom. Assisting in the removal or reporting of any damaged or hazardous equipment to the Group Teacher or other. designated personnel so that necessary action may be taken. Assisting in keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition to encourage maximum constructive use by the children. Assisting in the planning of an appropriate arrangement of classroom furniture so the environment is conducive to young children. Being involved in the use of shared space in relation to the total center program. Assisting the Group Teacher in developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with families. Attending and participating in monthly educational parent meetings. Adhering to the approved plan by which information concerning the children and program can be shared with families. Encouraging parents to attend parent meetings.
Qualifications
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Social Services (with 1-2 years’ experience in an early childhood setting) Minimum CDA or completed 60 college credits with 1-2 years’ experience working with children newborn to age 3 in a center-based option or equivalent.
