Job Title: Campus Police Officer Location: Georgia Gwinnett College, Gwinnett County, GA Job Type: Full-Time, Regular Job ID: 285097 As a sworn Peace Officer, this position creates and maintains a safe and secure environment for community members, visitors, and campus property. It is a designated position of trust with reporting lines to a Division Sergeant or Lieutenant. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment checks and maintaining required certifications and licenses. Responsibilities
Respond to incidents and emergencies by vehicle or on foot; conduct investigations of crimes, traffic offenses, parking violations, and policy infractions; intervene, interview individuals, and, when appropriate, apprehend offenders; prepare reports for legal prosecution or referrals to campus services; assist victims and witnesses; secure and preserve evidence; testify in court or college settings as needed. Provide community-oriented policing services; work with students, staff, and visitors to address safety concerns; render first aid or life-saving measures when needed; coordinate emergency responses; evacuate or limit access to dangerous locations; perform other duties as directed. Physically control violent individuals when necessary; maintain confidentiality of information encountered during employment. Direct traffic on campus property and manage scene safety, including setup of barricades and cones as required. Operate under general supervision in potentially hazardous conditions; may provide mutual aid to other agencies; routines may include shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime; flexibility to assume duties of related roles when needed. Supervisors monitor activities through observations and communications; reports are reviewed for accuracy and compliance; uniforms, equipment, and vehicles are regularly inspected. Possess a varied schedule with potential assignments across different divisions or units and the possibility of reassignment to a specialized unit or different campus needs. Qualifications
High School diploma or GED 21 years of age or older GAPOST-certified peace officer in good standing; current GAPOST profile submitted as part of the application Applicants certified by other agencies may be considered; must submit law enforcement certifications and official profiles All certified applicants must be in good standing, with no termination or unresolved issues affecting eligibility Preferred Qualifications
2-year or higher degree (Associate, Bachelor's) Current or recent employment as a GAPOST-recognized peace officer Knowledge of police methods, procedures, and applicable laws; ability to apply knowledge to situations Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse campus populations Familiarity with court testimony and relevant records management Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Effective communication via phone, radio, and in-person Ability to collaborate across departments and with external agencies; professional conduct under pressure; sound decision-making Organizational skills; ability to learn codes and terminology for clear radio communication Flexible work hours including shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; ability to testify in court Proficiency with basic computer programs and police records systems Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws relevant to policing; firearm and less-lethal weapon safety Written communication skills; accurate record-keeping and reporting Ability to perform CPR/AED, stop-the-bleed, and naloxone administration as appropriate Ability to build relationships with students and staff; exercise diplomacy, fairness, and good judgment Observational accuracy and memory for incidents, locations, and individuals Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to policies and legal standards Employment Details & Compliance
