Primary purpose: Provides a crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus by observing and reporting. Facilitates use of the campus by opening, closing and monitoring control of NSU property. Investigates campus incidents and occurrences. Communicates and coordinates with the NSU community the crime prevention goals of the Public Safety Department through personal interaction and other methodologies. Job Category

Detects and responds to safety hazards to ensure safety of employees and visitors. Provides physical inspections and investigations on campus to ensure a safe environment. Conducts security and safety audits to identify hazards and dangers. Conducts accident and injury investigations to ensure proper record keeping of incidents. Completes activity logs and incident reports for proper record keeping. Coordinates with local law enforcement concerning investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses. Conducts fire system inspections and emergency response drills. Provides for locking and unlocking access control for campus buildings. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Job Requirements

Excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to multitask; basic computer literacy; conflict management skills; ability to work under pressure; maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with others; work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
May involve bending, climbing, sitting and/or standing for up to 8 hours. May require use of equipment and supplies including pens, pencils and computer keyboards. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. Required Certifications/Licenses
Have or obtain current and valid Florida Driver's License with no more than three (3) points. Required Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent Required Experience
Previous customer service experience. Preferred Qualifications
Parking enforcement specialist certification. Previous customer service, public safety, security, or police experience. Previous experience with Microsoft Office products. Is this a safety sensitive position?
