We are seeking an early childhood education (ECE) teacher to work with our students for the 2025-26 school year. Teaching positions are full-time, salaried, 10-month positions. Special Education Teachers at Meridian are responsible for the following:

Responsibilities

Collaborating with colleagues in developing cohesive Common Core-aligned curriculum materials, increasing evidence-based instructional resources, and establishing instructional goals grounded in research

Preparing standards-based lessons that challenge students’ critical thinking

Utilizing strong content knowledge to effectively present enticing and rigorous Common Core-aligned lessons

Differentiating instruction to accommodate multiple learning styles and abilities

Assessing students’ academic and developmental growth through observation and a variety of assessment methods

Tracking and monitoring data in order to regularly refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans

Applying the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations

Communicating with students, parents, and school staff to ensure that students are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals

Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team as appropriate

Establish and implement effective classroom management procedures, and maintain a productive, safe, and focused learning environment

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. Concentration or advanced degree in education preferred.

Two or more years of ECE or elementary teaching experience as a lead teacher in an urban environment with a strong record of student achievement preferred

Experience with co-teaching models preferred

Experience writing and monitoring IEPs preferred

Spanish language skills a plus

Salary and Benefits Meridian teachers and staff are compensated competitively for their time and have opportunities to earn additional income through leadership opportunities at the school level, offering extracurricular clubs and sports for students, and facilitating tutoring programs. In the 2024-25 school year, the pay scale for teachers ranged from $61,000 -$99,000, based on level of education and years of experience.

About Meridian PCS Meridian is a PreK-8th grade school located in Washington DC’s vibrant U Street Corridor. Our mission is to inspire a passion for learning in our students and to help them build their self-confidence and self-respect through academic achievement. As one of the oldest public charter schools in the city, our campuses support about 600 racially and ethnically diverse students from all wards of Washington, DC. Approximately 25% of our students are English language learners (multilingual learners). One-third of students live in the surrounding neighborhood and approximately 50% live in Ward 1. Meridian’s elementary PreK-5th grade campus is located in DC’s vibrant U Street Corridor. Meridian’s middle school campus, grades 6-8, is located in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
