LinkedIn . Position Description: Responsible for using internal, third-party, and public data sets to provide weather forecast guidance, with primary focus on short-term energy market activities. Duties: Interpret meteorological data and forecasts from internal sources, third party forecast providers, and publicly available data to provide daily strategy guidance to Market Operations team Collaborate with third-party vendors on improving accuracy or quality of services Identify and alert management of high-impact weather events capable of increasing operational risk Coordinate with Field Operations team to schedule major service or outages during advantageous periods Review and report on accuracy of ISO and third-party forecasts. Develop and enhance tools used to communicate forecasts or weather risks to other business units Qualifications: Graduate degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences or a related technical discipline. Experience in Electric/Gas Utility industry Experience integrating various weather outlooks and briefing users on uncertainties and impacts. Experience forecasting one to seven-day ahead surface temperature and forecasting weather utilizing a wide variety of observational and model data, both at surface and upper air. Experience analyzing renewable power production (wind, solar, hydro) and how weather impacts those resources. Extensive knowledge of NWS system and demonstrated experience using National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) products Experience with long-term (month ahead or more) weather forecasting. Experience using Python, R, or other coding languages for data analysis, statistical analysis, and forecasting.
