Overview
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College are seeking outstanding candidates for the Herman O. West Professorship in Geriatric Medicine. Dartmouth Health is accredited as an Age Friendly Health System and hosts faculty, fellows, and staff who have a passion for patient care, medical education, scholarship and community health. This Professorship provides academic leadership to the Geriatric Center of Excellence at Dartmouth Health (GCE). The interprofessional team at the GCE works with clinical, education and research teams from Community & Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology and Emergency Medicine to advance aging and the highest quality of life for older adults. The GCE includes clinicians, educators and researchers from medicine, nursing, social work, psychology and pharmacy. Dartmouth has been awarded major geriatric grants, including a $4 million HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) cooperative agreement, and is involved with the GWEP Coordinating Center at the American Geriatrics Society. It has also been accredited as a Level 1 Geriatric Emergency Department by the American College of Emergency Physicians, supported by a $3 million West Health Foundation grant for rural hospital geriatric ED accreditation.
Requirements
M.D., D.O. from an accredited institution with appropriate clinical training and experience. Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry or Neurology; outstanding clinical skills and an extensive research portfolio applicable to geriatrics; interest in clinical teaching; eligibility for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center staff privileges required. Candidates must have demonstrated capabilities for teaching, professional services and demonstrated scholarship to be eligible for appointment at the academic rank of Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in a relevant academic department. Essential Responsibilities Include
Develop, mentor, oversee and coordinate a substantial body of innovative academic research programs designed to improve care to geriatric populations. Interests are broad in scope and may include health policy; health economics, reducing variation in care, economic models of sustainability and cost, impacts of rurality on geriatric populations, implementation and innovations in care delivery. Sustain and grow an individual research portfolio with commitment to collaboration across multiple disciplines. Collaborate with faculty in the School of Medicine as well as providers in Nursing, Pharmacy and Population Health to advance interdisciplinary education. Potential for expanded collaboration with Dartmouth College, including the undergraduate School of Arts & Sciences, Thayer School of Engineering, and Tuck School of Business. Participate in local, national and international geriatric associations and organizations. Patient care practice. Mentorship and teaching of fellows, residents and medical students across several disciplines. The Herman O.
