Any combination of education and experience that likely provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typically, this includes: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and graduation from a P.O.S.T.-approved police academy. College coursework and specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related fields are highly desirable. An Associate’s degree is highly desirable. Experience
Some work experience as a California peace officer or other relevant experience demonstrating aptitude for police work. License or Certificate
Valid driver's license. P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate upon completion of the probationary period. Additional certifications may be required for specialized roles. We are accepting applications for lateral Police Officers on a continuous basis. This recruitment may close at any time without notice. Resumes can be submitted but do not replace a complete application. Examination and Recruitment Process
Application review for minimum qualifications. Qualified applicants are placed on an Eligible List for scheduling panel interviews. Top candidates are invited to a Captain’s interview. Candidates passing the Captain’s interview proceed to a polygraph exam. Successful candidates undergo a background investigation. Upon passing the background, candidates may receive a conditional job offer, followed by medical and psychological evaluations. Final employment depends on successful completion of these evaluations.
