Testing for the position of POLICE OFFICER CADET will occur on TBD. The time and location will be sent via email to qualified applicants once approved by the Human Resources/Risk Management Department. Under the City of Sanford Police Sponsorship Program, this position aims to prepare the Police Officer Cadet in police work involving crime detection, prevention, and investigation. As a Police Officer Cadet in the Florida Law Enforcement Academy, the employee must successfully complete the academy curriculum and obtain the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification by passing the required State Officer Exam. Must complete the academy curriculum and obtain the certification within 60 days of graduation. Must comply with all applicable laws, ordinances, department directives, and policies of the Sanford Police Department and the City of Sanford. Must work 40 hours per week and coordinate schedules with the Sanford Police Department Training Coordinator. During periods of reduced hours, report to the Training Coordinator for assignments. Qualifications include: High School Diploma or GED Valid Florida Driver's License No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, domestic violence, perjury, or false statements Free of tobacco products for at least one year prior to application At least 20 years old at application, 21 at appointment US Citizen Not dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces Vision of 20/20 or corrected to 20/40 Ability to sign the Police Officer Cadet Agreement Successful completion of the Criminal Justice Basic Ability Test (CJBAT) Satisfactory background check including FBI review, driving record, physical, stress test, drug screen, behavioral screening Cadets failing to complete the Academy and pass the State Officer Exam will reimburse the City for costs incurred, as per the Police Officer Cadet Agreement. Applicants must account for all employment periods over the last ten years on their application. They must obtain the NIMS ICS-100 and IS-700 courses within six months of employment. Knowledge of First Aid, business English, and communication skills are required. Ability to follow instructions and perform equipment inspections is essential. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Tasks involve physically demanding activities, including reaching, bending, running, climbing, and lifting heavy objects.
