Overview
POLICE OFFICER role at City of Slidell. The Patrol Officer 3rd Class performs police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation and related law enforcement activities in accordance with all City, State and Federal laws. The tasks are performed under the general supervision of a Sergeant. Responsibilities
Works rotating shifts, responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, intoxication, missing persons, prowlers, and drug-related incidents; takes appropriate law enforcement action. Available by radio or telephone for emergencies. Investigates and renders assistance at the scene of vehicular accidents; interviews drivers, takes measurements, draws diagrams of the crash scene, preserves evidence, analyzes the scene to determine potential causes, and makes judgments regarding what occurred. Performs tasks while distractions are present, including during emergency situations. Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes during assigned shifts; questions victims, witnesses and suspects to develop leads; searches scenes for clues; analyzes and evaluates evidence to arrest offenders. Prepares findings for accurate testimony in court; participates with other officers or City departments to investigate criminal violations; obtain evidence and compile information for charges; testify in court as needed. Patrols City streets, parks, and residential/commercial areas to preserve peace, prevent crime and enforce laws; controls vehicular traffic and investigates misdemeanors, felonies, and other violations. Maintains courteous communication with citizens, officers, employees and dispatch; listens, comprehends instructions and interprets information. Notifies supervisors of problems; demonstrates basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to write clear reports and forms used by the Department. Coordinates with the Medical Examiner in death investigations and attends autopsies as required; maintains ability to function as a uniformed officer. Pursues suspects on foot or in a vehicle; remains available for call-out or consultation on major cases or emergencies. Maintains compliance with Federal, State, Parish, and City laws and ordinances; maintains department-issued equipment, supplies, and facilities. Serves as backup for traffic control, patrol, crime prevention or other policing functions as directed; performs other related duties as assigned. Takes photographs of non-complex crime scenes and submits photographs as evidence; maintains knowledge of NCIC and NCIC certification. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) Patrol Field Training Program Less Lethal Force Option Certification NAPD Driving Certification Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Class Certification as Operator for Intoxilyzer 9000 CPR / First Aid Certification If transferring from another agency, employees must obtain certifications within six (6) months. General Requirements
Must possess a valid state driver's license without suspension or revocation. Must complete the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Academy. Must meet all department physical requirements. Must be 20 years or older. Must be a U.S. citizen and able to read and write English. Must have good moral character and temperate, industrious habits. If up for promotional advancement, an active administrative investigation must be completed before eligibility. Must be able to possess a firearm and must not have a felony conviction. Special Requirements
A newly hired officer will complete 15 months of probation following the hire date (3 months Basic Training Academy, then one year after Academy). The shift Commander will complete quarterly evaluations until the employee is removed from probation, with termination possible if acceptable evaluation is not met. Lateral transfers may have a one-year probation after POS
