Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Part Time Group Exercise Specialist to our team. This position will develop group exercise services and classes for diverse communities at Northern Regional Recreation Center. The incumbent will lead group exercise programming by offering about 10-15 classes per week for patrons. They will build rapport with patrons and promote fitness services, and may participate in small group and personal training programs. The preferred candidate will have experience teaching a variety of group exercise classes and possess group fitness certifications. This position will work between 24-29 hours per week with a schedule of varying days/hours, which may include nights and weekends depending on business and facility needs. Experience leading a variety of group exercise classes highly preferred Current fitness certifications from nationally recognized organizations ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist with developing and instructing group exercise classes. Provide customer service in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, website, social media and walk-in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals. Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary. Enforce rules and regulations. May collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs. Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas. Handle inquiries and complaints from the public. Assist with department events. May serve as manager on duty if the Sr Rec Specialist is not available. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or a related field. Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?

Yes Computer Skills:

Basic computer knowledge. Licenses and Certifications:

Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s license and County Driving Privileges; Requires the ability to obtain (within one year of hire) and maintain CPR, Wilderness First Aid or First Responder, and American Canoe Association, Kayak and SUP level I or II. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Skills: • Applying recreation knowledge through hands-on activities while meeting the needs of diverse populations • Developing and enforcing general rules and safety procedures • Managing multiple tasks concurrently • Ability to work independently • Organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization.
